Alex’s first memory of basketball goes back to 1987,when he was only 4 years old, playing outside with his two older brothers Chris and Arthur. His father Luther Acker who was his first coach, taught Alex all he needed to know about the game and shaped his talent to allow him to become the successful player he is today. In his younger years Alex and his family were forced to move around a lot due to a series of evictions, to the point that he doesn’t recall going to the same elementary school more than twice. After his first two years he had to transfer from Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California to Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California. During his freshman year at Cajon he received his first letter from UCLA, which was the first of many, but he fell to meet the requirements of the SAT, falling 20 points short.

Alex was almost considering going to Prep School in Massachusetts, but the last few weeks of the summer his AAU coach took him to Pepperdine where Coach Westphal hosted his camp and decided to offer him the last scholarship available after only seeing him play for three days, however even for Pepperdine university he didn’t meet the SAT requirements. He was partial qualifier so he sat out his freshman year, but he was fully focused on improving his GPA to a steady 3.2 average, and also thanks his developing basketball skills and intense practice sessions he was able to finally be accepted.

His favorite basketball memory was hearing his name at the 2005 NBA draft as 60th pick for the Detroit Pistons.

Besides basketball, Alex’s biggest passion is drawing, and that was the reason he picked Art as his major in college. Some of his paintings are still showcased on Pepperdine’s website. Alex’s has been playing overseas in four different countries, so his love for basketball really brought him places he could only dream of during his younger years. He has played for a few of the top teams in Europe and experienced a variety of different cultures and environments that made him grow greatly as a man.

His favorite place in Europe is Italy,as it is the place where,in 2009, he met his soon to be wife.

That just goes to show that there is no limit to what the blessings of being able to do what you love for a living can bring.
